Marin launches new grab tool

Elaine Maslin, 21st June 2012

Subsea-intervention firm Marin Subsea has launched a new high-volume grab tool after investing more than £1million on design and development.

The equipment has been created for tasks including large-scale brownfield clearance, such as removing seabed debris.

Marin Subsea, which is targeting £8million turnover this year and is part of Ellon-based Marin Group, said the tool, on which a patent is pending, would form part of its EVO Marin Debris Recovery System (MDRS).

Group chief executive George Stroud said: “This grab is unlike anything currently available and is of particular interest to clients in the decommissioning, renewables and route-preparation sectors.

“Although we envisage the MDRS being primarily used within the energy industry, it can also be configured for other maritime jobs such as light-aircraft and helicopter recovery.

“It is extremely versatile, can be used at any depth, and can be configured to address a wide variety of subsea requirements.”

The grab is the latest in a series of proprietary tools in which Marin has invested £3million to deliver a one-stop debris recovery and removal service.
