Strike may hit oil rig

Elaine Maslin, 13th June 2012

A strike in Norway by 114 Baker Hughes employees has meant a rig working for Centrica in the Norwegian Sea may stop work today.

The West Alpha rig is expected to be the first of a number of rigs that have to stop operations. Staff who worked for a firm taken over by Baker Hughes went on strike after talks with the Norwegian Oil Industry Association over pay and conditions broke down.
