An Aberdeen-based firm has agreed a deal to work with heavy oil explorer Xcite on plans to develop the Bentley field.
EPC Offshore, a concept development and project management specialist, will provide project management and associated support services for the field nearly 100 miles east of Shetland on the western edge of the Viking Graben.
The field covers an area of about 27 square miles with an estimated 550million barrels in place.
Chief executive Keith Wallace said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for us. Heavy oil is becoming increasingly important and relevant to the current industry with the world containing approximately twice the reserves of heavy oil when compared to conventional light crude.
“Within the UK continental shelf, as well as Xcite’s Bentley field, there are a number of other heavy oil projects moving towards development, namely the Mariner, Bressay and Kraken fields, and we are delighted to have been chosen to support the selection of the optimum concept for developing this dynamic project.”
EPC employs 70 people and is headquartered in Aberdeen.
