BG Group and Petrobras have filed a Declaration of Commerciality (DoC) with the Brazilian National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP), for the multi-billion-barrel accumulation of light oil and gas in the Tupi and Iracema areas (BM-S-11 block).
In the proposal sent to the regulatory body, the names “Lula” field and “Cernambi” field have been suggested for Tupi and Iracema respectively.
Evaluation and development plans for both fields are being submitted jointly with the DoC to ANP. The DoC notification to the ANP also includes the operator’s estimates of total recoverable volumes associated with the initial stage of development of the two fields.
The DoC was made after the execution of the exploration and appraisal campaign in the area, which started with the first well drilled in October 2006.
The 11 wells drilled in both areas and an extended well test within the Tupi area, which started in April 2009, provided the main information for the basis for the volume estimates and the initial development stage of the two fields.
BG began the initial extended well test of the GuarĂ¡ discovery on the BM-S-9 concession, also in Brazil, on Christmas Day.
Following completion of the test, a pilot project on the discovery will commence in 2013, with wells connected to the FPSO Cicade de Sao Paulo, which has a production capacity of 120,000 barrels of oil and around 177million cu ft of gas per day.
Meanwhile, Statoil with Petrobras have struck oil on the Indra prospect in the Espirito Santo basin.
Petrobras is operator for licence BM-ES-32, which covers the area in which the discovery was made, and where Statoil holds a 40% stake.
The exploration well was drilled at a depth of 2,130m (6,988ft), and both the oil and the reservoir quality are good.
The reservoir thickness is approximately 70m (230ft) and is of good quality. The preliminary analysis of the oil shows a density in the range 25-30 degrees API.
The Indra find was made by the semi-submersible rig Paul Wolfe. It is located 140km from land and some 400km north of the Peregrino discovery.
Statoil is also participating in exploratory drilling in the Campos basin on licence BM-C-33, where Repsol is the operator.
Statoil is operator on the Peregrino field and will hold a 60% share, once a 40% divestment to Sinochem has been approved by the Brazilian authorities.
