Aberdeenshire firms Pipetech and Denholm Environmental are set to come under one roof following a successful takeover by the latter firm.
Denholm has said that all workers from the subsea pipe cleaning firm will be retained, moving from Oldmeldrum and instead reporting for work at its Inverurie base.
Pipetech had been sharing a facility with Oldmeldrum’s Sureclean, where it had been renting out part of the firm’s facility.
The latest in the string of four acquisitions from Denholm over the last six years will bring the asset cleaning and decontamination solutions business’ headcount to 200.
The north-east firm acquired MSIS in September 2019, Hazco Environmental in March 2020, and Andidrain in July 2022.
The firm said that it is financing its recent acquisition without external financing.
Brian Ritchie, managing director of Denholm Environmental, said: “This acquisition represents an exciting step forward for us because it brings into the fold products and services that are highly complementary to our existing capabilities.
“It is a strategic move in our sustained growth plans as it enables us to deliver even more integrated and efficient solutions to a growing client base.”
The acquisition of Pipetech from Pipetech Holdings was agreed for an undisclosed sum.
Pipetech recently brought its downhole scale remediation (DSR) technology to the market after working alongside Aberdeen’s Net Zero Technology Centre (NZTC).
Pipetech’s new kit aims to address long-standing industry challenges posed by scale, wax, and other naturally occurring deposits that obstruct fluid flow, compromise production efficiency and create unsuitable surfaces for bridge plugs.
Over 30% of the UK’s oil and gas wells are shut-in, according to the UK regulator, the North Sea Transition Authority (NSTA).
NSTA figures show that there are 1,225 wellbores with issues in the North Sea. Of those, 81 have issues with downhole deposits, 25 reported formation damage, and 40 had mechanical downhole access problems.
Denholm claimed that the SDSR will “complement” its existing offerings and activities.
On the acquisition, Pipetech operations director Leonard Hamill added: “We see this as a great move for both companies and our clients, pooling resources to achieve excellent outcomes as we work towards a bright future together.”
