Opinion: Keep the North Sea Super Puma free

One of the great questions of 2017 for the trade union movement in Scotland has been “What is to become of the Super Puma 225 helicopter?” That question has been raised well beyond union circles because of Unite Scotland’s campaign against any return of the Puma to the North Sea for transferring workers from the heliports outside Aberdeen to the oil rigs. Our slogan of the year has become “No Comeback for the Super Puma. Keep the North Sea Puma Free.” So why the controversy about this aircraft?

Opinion: X-pectations high for 2018 following steady 12 months

However, we’re now seeing the mood begin to lift and we continue to describe the outlook as ‘cautiously optimistic’.

Opinion: North Sea efficiency drive must be ‘stepped up’

A year ago, I likened the dynamic of the oil and gas industry to the migration of elephants. You couldn’t see them, but you could hear the sound of the herd approaching. They might not yet have made it to our back garden, but they are getting closer.  As 2017 comes to a close, the outlook for North Sea oil and gas remains mixed,  but I am cautiously confident about 2018.
