Indonesia lagging Malaysia as CCS starts to grip Southeast Asia

Malaysia and Indonesia were the first countries in Southeast Asia to announce that carbon capture and storage (CCS) would play a role in decarbonising their industrial sectors. BP (LON:BP) in Indonesia, and Petronas in Malaysia, announced landmark projects in the oil and gas industry. However, while Indonesia has started having the right conversations around CCS, neighbouring Malaysia, and possibly even Thailand, appear to be making more progress within the region.

Standard Bank sees Tanzania-Uganda pipeline as ‘positive’

A proposed natural gas pipeline running from Tanzania to Uganda may have a positive environmental impact in a region where the majority of households still cook using charcoal or wood, according to Patrick Mweheire, Standard Bank Group’s regional chief executive officer for East Africa.

POSCO and Petronas team up for CCS in Malaysia

Malaysian state energy company Petronas and South Korea’s POSCO International will jointly explore opportunities in carbon capture and storage (CCS) technologies, as well as carbon dioxide (CO2) storage solutions in Malaysia. Significantly, Petronas wants to establish Malaysia as the leading hub for CCS in the Asia region.

BP cheers Indonesia first at Tangguh LNG

BP (LON: BP) today signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with upstream regulator SKK Migas for Indonesia’s first enhanced gas recovery (EGR) and carbon capture utilisation and storage (CCUS) development. The EGR and CCUS scheme will be implemented at BP’s Tangguh liquefied natural gas (LNG) project.
