A commercial diver has captured the moment a Shortfin Mako Shark leapt up to 10ft in the air landing on board a vessel in the Gulf of Mexico. Nate Melnik, 33, went to investigate a noise he thought was coming from a jet pump when he spotted the 7ft Mako Shark had jumped over the side of the boat and onto the deck. BG Group has started production from the Knarr oil field in the North Sea. The Petrojal Knarr floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel has been leased from Teekay Corporation and is morred approximately 120 kilomtres off the Norwegian coast. It has a production capcity of 63,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day and a storage capacity of 800 000 barrels. Industry body Oil & Gas UK has painted a “bleak” picture of the offshore sector in a new report that calls for a three-pronged set of reforms that will help the North Sea deliver on its full potential over coming decades. The report laid out a mixed bag of figures, and not all of them make for pleasant reading for an industry staggering under the weight of low oil prices and high costs. OGUK found that only 14 out of 25 expected exploration wells were drilled last year, while the cost of producing a barrel of oil last reached a record high of £18.50 in 2014.

The Aberdeen-based company said by harnessing the ability to simulate, build and install subsea operations, the function of 3D animation has become a realistic option for the reduction of unnecessary operational expenditure. Lee Muir, business development manager for Cadherent, said animation was previously considered as a "nice-to-have" commodity for many organisations but in the current market has become more valuable.
