The head of a major construction firm will try his hand in the energy sector after agreeing to join the board of Wood Group.
Richard Howson, who has been chief executive of Carillion since 2012, will take on the role of non-executive director at Wood Group starting May 12.
Mr Howson will also take up a place on the Wood Group board’s committees for nomination and safety, assurance and business ethics, the Aberdeen-headquartered oil service firm said yesterday.
Mr Howson, who is a fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers, was first appointed to the board of Carillion in 2009 as executive director responsible for its Middle East,
North Africa and UK construction businesses.
He was also put in charge of health and safety and sustainability programmes at Carillion, which is part of the Connect Roads consortium commissioned to build the Aberdeen city bypass.
Wood Group chairman Ian Marchant said of Mr Howson’s appointment: “I am delighted to welcome Richard to the board. His extensive experience as chief executive of an international contracting business will further strengthen the board and provide valuable support and guidance to the group’s executive leadership team.
“Keeping our people safe is the group’s top priority and the knowledge that Richard brings from the construction and civil engineering sectors will give valuable insight to the safety, assurance and business ethics committee, which he will join after appointment”.
