Scottish energy consultancy Tymor Marine is branching overseas by opening an office in Louisiana to grow its US client base.
The firm’s US operations will trade as Tymor Marine US Inc from offices in Kaplan – close to Lafayette – and assist its American clients with activities such as stability analysis, seafastening and project cargo shipments.
Two full-time staff are currently employed but this is expected to grow to four within the next quarter. Experienced engineering project manager Lonnie Gaspard has been appointed as VP and is responsible for delivering Tymor Marine’s in-depth technical design and analysis services in the region.
Tymor’s MD, Kevin Moran, said: “Having formed strong and successful relationships with our existing client base, we are now seeking to support them as they enter and grow their activities in the Gulf of Mexico region.
“Opening offices in the US is therefore a natural progression and Lonnie brings a wealth of local knowledge to the role which, coupled with our physical presence in the US, should provide Tymor Marine with an advantage as we enter this new market.”
The decision to invest in a US satellite follows a second successful year for the naval architecture and marine engineering specialist based in Aberdeen and Glasgow.
The company, which focuses on marine, subsea and structural design and analysis for the energy sector (oil and gas, plus maritime renewables), says it expects to have turned over £800,000 for the financial year ended last month, representing annual growth rate of 60% thus far.
Tymor Marine currently employs 10 people, but expects this to increase to 16 in the coming year as it seeks to grow its turnover by two-thirds.
Moran added: “During this past year the business has grown ahead of our expectations, illustrating the level of demand there is for our services from marine, subsea and energy companies.
“The US office will make a significant contribution to the business in the coming year as we look to repeat this year’s 60% growth.”
