Offshore helicopter operator NHV will partner with long-distance drone firm Flylogix to offer a “one-stop shop” for North Sea oil and gas firms.
The two firms said the deal is a first-of-its-kind for the energy industry, combining offshore helicopter operations with “cutting-edge” drone services.
Flylogix provides methane and asset integrity monitoring services for North Sea firms via its long-distance “mini planes”, and recently signed a deal with operators Equinor, Shell and Ithaca Energy.
The Lee-on-the-Solent-headquartered company also provides defence surveillance of critical infrastructure such as pipelines.
Meanwhile, Belgian operator NHV provides offshore helicopter flights across the oil and gas and offshore wind sectors in the North Sea, Europe and West Africa.
NHV’s North Sea energy business unit maintains UK bases in Aberdeen, Norwich and Blackpool, with the Flylogix partnership having an initial focus on the UK North Sea and East Irish Sea.
NHV and Flylogix
Announcing the partnership with Flylogix, NHV said it will provide a unique offering among North Sea helicopter firms.
NHV Group chief commercial officer Jamie John said advances in the Flylogix technology and engagement with UK aviation regulators made the deal possible.
“This partnership will deliver a one-stop shop for the energy sector, as our crew transport marries with the innovative solutions offered by drone technology,” John said.
“The world, and the UK in particular, is working hard to integrate and modernise its airspace in recognition of the vital role drone flights will play in the future.
“We are excited to bring this technology to our customers, and the broad scope of possibilities it provides for their evolving needs.”
For Flylogix, the deal comes as it aims to add new customers and geographies to its operations.
Flylogix chief executive Charles Tavner said NHV is the “ideal partner” to help bring its “innovative, cost-effective solutions to the market”.
“This strategic partnership will bring the future of flight to the North Sea and show the industry what’s possible with leading edge drone technology,” Tavner said.
“Already we are seeing huge demand for services from the North Sea oil and gas community, as well as applications in defence and renewables.
