Lundin Petroleum has made a small gas discovery offshore Malaysia. The company said its subsidiary, Lundin Malaysia, made the find from the Mengkuang-1 exploration well in license PM307. The well had been targeting hydrocarbons in Miocene-aged sands 75km to the northwest of the Bertam field operated by Lundin Malaysia.
Technip has been awarded a subsea contact by JX Nippon Oil and Gas exploration in Malaysia. The deal will see the company cover the engineering, procurement, fabrication, installation and commissioning of three flexible pipes in the Layang field, offshore Sarawak. The flexible pipes consist of two production risers and flowlines and one gas export riser and flowline, connecting shallow water platforms to a new FPSO (Floating Production Storage and Offloading Unit).

Malaysia's Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) PETR.UL said it is committed to its Canadian liquefied natural gas (LNG) project despite the tumble in oil and gas prices which has hurt the state-owned oil company's profitability. The project would see Petronas build an export terminal near the British Columbia port city of Prince Rupert, a natural gas pipeline and ongoing gas development. Petronas had reached a deal with British Columbia in May on the proposed project, drawing it closer to its final investment decision. "Petronas would like to reaffirm its commitment to deliver long term LNG supply to its customers through the Pacific NorthWest LNG project in Canada, despite the current market volatility for oil and gas," its chief executive officer for Upstream, Wee Yiaw Hin, said in an emailed statement.

A Malaysian naval vessel has located the hijacked tanker Orkim Harmony in Vietnamese waters and is trying to persuade the pirates onboard to surrender, promising them they will be unharmed, Malaysian maritime officials said on Thursday. Both the crew and the cargo are safe, and the navy is in the midst of negotiations with the robbers, officials with the Malaysia Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) said in a press briefing in Kuala Lumpur. Malaysia's Chief of Navy Admiral Abdul Aziz Jaafar said on his Twitter account that at least eight perpetrators were on board the Orkim Harmony armed with pistols and machetes.

The objectives for the well had been Miocene aged turbidite sands of similar age to the Shell operated South Furious 30 oil field.
Oil giant Shell has produced its first oil from the Gumusut-Kakap floating platform off the coast of Malaysia. It is the latest in a series of Shell deep-water contracts and the platform is expected to reach an annual production of around 135,000 barrels per day (bpd) once fully ramped up.
