£1m Fugro camera win for Kongsberg

OFFSHORE and marine service company Kongsberg Maritime said yesterday it had secured an order worth more than £1million from Dutch engineering consultant Fugro for underwater cameras made at Wick and imaging sonars manufactured elsewhere.

The Norwegian group, which has a training centre at Westhill, Aberdeenshire, and operations in Aberdeen plus the manufacturing plant at Wick, said Fugro’s cameras would be shipped worldwide.

The sonar equipment in the new order will be made by sister company Kongsberg Mesotech in Canada, although sales and servicing for British customers will be carried out by Kongsberg Maritime in the UK.

Kongsberg Maritime – part of Kongsberg Group – designs and manufactures underwater video and imaging products plus harsh-environment marine CCTV systems for the offshore oilfield, maritime, scientific and defence sectors.

In the UK, it employs more than 150 people across its sites in Scotland and Waterlooville, Hampshire.
