Spotlight on Seatech

THE future commerciality of the marine energy industry is being put under the spotlight by a group of MBA oil and gas students at Aberdeen Business School.

Under a project named Seatech, students have joined forces will Simmons International to assess the viability of businesses exploring wave and tidal power.

Their report, Strategic Development in Wave and Tidal Energy, will also look at the current climate for growth in the sector.

It will focus on a range of issues including licensing, commissioning, and environmental and government regulations.

It aims to analyse the wave and tidal industry and measure it holistically, based on business models, technology development and maturity, commercial activity, diversity of products and efficiency of energy developed, said, Ashraf Gouda, team leader.

Companies will be looked at in terms of the technology they are developing, scalability, commercial viability and financial strength.
