Dana Petroleum says it has struck oil at its Liberator prospect in the Moray Firth.
Dana has a 100% stake in the site, which will now undergo detailed evaluation to determine how much oil is on the site.
The find comes just days after the company’s Pharos exploration well turned up a gas find.
Drilling on the site by the Ocean Nomad began at the end of October, with the rig now returning to the North Sea for further work on Dana’s Western Isles project.
“This is the second North Sea discovery that Dana has made within the last month, and our fifth discovery in the last three years,” said Dana managing director Paul Griffin.
“The discovery lies close to existing infrastructure and we will now undertake further evaluation work to determine its commercial potential.”
