Production has been shut down on a North Sea platform after a hole in the flare system was discovered.
Statoil confirmed production was stopped on the Gullfaks B platform after discovering the problem last night.
“We halted production yesterday after we found a hole in the torch system,” said spokesman Oerjan Heradstveit.
“We will repair the small hole on the torch system as soon as possible.”
The company could not say how long repairs would take, however.
The field, one of the oldest North Sea projects, produces almost 40,000 barrels of oil per day. Production is continuing as normal from the Gullfaks A and C platforms, Statoil said.
