Japanese company Modec has contracted out the project to build a floating storage and offloading (FSO) vessel for Maersk Oil’s £3billion Culzean gas development in the North Sea.
Singapore’s Sembcorp Marine said it had secured the work to design and build the FSO, with the project being handled by its wholly-owned subsidiary Sembcorp Marine Rigs and Floaters (SMRF).
Scheduled for delivery in the first quarter of 2018, the vessel will be Sembcorp’s first FSO new-build secured on a full turnkey project basis.
TWMA has been awarded two contract with Maersk Oil in the UK including on the Culzean development.
The waste management and environmental services firm also involve continuation of provision of innovative technology across Maersk’s North Sea operations.
The new work will also help create up to 20 new jobs.

Last month, Maersk Oil confirmed it would invest $4.5billion in its high pressure, high temperature Culzean field in the UK Central North Sea.
The cash commitment secures Culzean’s future though 2032, supports 6,000 jobs and creates more than 400 direct jobs.

Maersk Oil and Gas has hired DNV GL in a multi-million service contract deal for its Culzean project in the UK North Sea.
The scope of contract includes Independent Competent Person (ICP) verification, Independent Verification Body (IVB) and Pressure Equipment Directive (PED) work.
The team will be managed from a single point in the UK and DNV GL said it will use additional resources and expertise from Maersk’s team in Denmark to deliver the work.
