Technip wins Santos Basin contract
Technip said it has been awarded a contract from Libra Oil & Gas in the Santos Basin pre-salt area, offshore Brazil. The company will carry out the work for the consortium which is led by Petrobras Netherlands and its partners Shell, Total, CNOOC and CNPC. Technip said the project includes the supply of flexible pipes for the Libra extended well test field and is one of the first steps of the giant field development.
BG Group starts up sixth production in Santos Basin
BG group has achieved first oil from the Cidade de Itaguai floating, production, storage and offloading vessel (FPSO) in the Santos Basin. The company said the FPSO is the sixth unit to start production across the group’s discoveries, offshore Brazil. The vessel will produce from the Iracema North area of the Lula field in the Petrobas-operated S-11 block.
Karoon Gas Australia make discovery at Santos Basin
Karoon Gas Australia has made a discovery at its Echidna-1 exploration well in the Santos Basin. The company said the well intersected an oil bearing section in Paleocene sands, and mudlogs showed an elevated gas reading and oil florescence in sandstone. Wirelogging will now be conducted to ascertain the extent of the gross and net columns, Karoon Gas said.
BG Group and Petrobas submit DoC for Iara
A Declaration of Commerciality (DoC) has been submitted to the Brazilian National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels for three separate oil and gas accumulations in Brazil. BG Group said it had, along with its partner Petrobas, submitted the application which it believes is another major milestone in the first phase of development of BG Group’s interests in the region. The Iara area is located approximately 250 kilometres off the coast of Rio De Janeiro in water depths of around 2,270 metres.
Karoon Gas hits five oil bearing reservoirs in Santos Basin
Karoon Gas has encountered five separate oil bearing reservoir sand intervals in its Kangaroo-2 appraisal well in the Santos Basin. The company said it had made the discovery within the Palaeocene and Maastrichtian formations in waters offshore Brazil. Work is now continuing to assess the impact of the well results on the resource size as no gas cap was penetrated and there was shallower oil water in some of the sands.
