Jim Nixon – speaker profile


Jim Nixon is the President and CEO of Carrollton, Texas based Varel International, the largest independent drill bit supplier to the oil & gas and mining industries. In 1998, Nixon spearheaded an investor backed buyout of the small, family-owned Varel Company. Since then, Varel’s revenue has grown from $30 million, to more than $325 million per year. (more…)

The British School of Houston is one of three international schools in the Texas energy centre providing schooling to the families of those on international postings. Headteacher Stephen Foxwell talks to the Press and Journal about the establishment’s outstanding GCSE exam results and how they deal with the sensitive subject of moving children between schools.

Stephen Costello – Speaker Profile


Stephen Costello is serving his second term as an At-Large City Council Member. First elected in December 2009, he entered public service with a background as a civil engineer and drainage specialist.  During his first term, he chaired the Flooding and Drainage Committee and worked to secure dedicated funding for infrastructure maintenance and improvements.

In that capacity he oversees operations of the various sections at the Consulate, including Consular; Science & Innovation; Political, Press & Public Affairs; and UK Trade & Investment.  The Consulate’s territory covers Texas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Colorado.
