Aker Solutions teams up with Saipem for joint subsea work

Aker Solutions has teamed up with Saipem to cooperate on targeted susbea oil and gas development projects worldwide. The company will make the move through a joint work group which will identify opportunities where they can create value for customers by combining Aker's capabilities in subsea products and technologies with Saipem's assets and expertise in engineering, procurement and construction.

Aker Solutions appoints new MMO head to UK operations

Aker Solutions has recruited an upstream manager from oil major BP to lead its maintenance, modifications and operations (MMO) business in the UK. Craig Wiggins, who will be based in Aberdeen, will have responsibility for the company's brownfield engineering capability in the region. His most recent role had seen him focussed on delivering efficiencies within BP's global upstream business.

Aker Solutions reduces North Sea headcount by 70

Aker Solutions has confirmed it is set to axe up to 70 North Sea jobs. The Norwegian firm said the move, announced to staff at its Dyce offices this morning, was part of a wider cost cutting programme announced last month. Overall the company said it would cut 500 jobs across operations in Norway and 400 roles outside of the country.

Aker Solutions and Baker Hughes aim to improve field economics

Aker Solutions and Baker Hughes agreed today to co-operate on early-phase studies to help customers improve the overall economics and value of oil and gas field developments. Aker's front-end spectrum unit and Baker Hughes' reservoir development services group will provide customers with development concept studies that address the entire value chain - from reservoir understanding and well design to subsea and topsides facilities, including flow assurance and risk management.

Aker to hold technology seminar in Aberdeen

The north-east subsea community is to hear how processing can increase production and prolong the economic lifetime of a field. At an event organised by Subsea UK, the Aker Solutions seminar in Aberdeeen will address oil recovery solutions, water injection technology and subsea power systems.

Aker Solutions forms subsea and topside market alliance

Aker Solutions and Fjords Processing have formed an alliance to develop technology and capabilities for wellstream separation and treatment solutions for the subsea and topside market. The WellSep alliance will apply Aker Solutions' subsea processing experience and testing facilities and Fjords' topside and onshore separation technologies. Rune Fantoft, chief executive of Fjords Processing, said:"This is a great opportunity to further develop our key technologies with one of our most important partners, Aker Solutions. "Developing our competence in a joint initiative will enable us to increase our focus on produced water and separation technology."

Aker Solutions to reduce Norwegian staff by 300

Aker Solutions will reduce its workforce in its maintenance, modifications and operations (MMO) department by around 300 members of staff. The Norwegian oil services firm plans to reduce its headcount in response to lower demand after oil prices declined. There are 4,300 staff members within the affected unit.

Aker contractors have an extra month on Solan

Norwegian energy service giant Aker Solutions said yesterday the current phase of its work on Premier Oil’s Solan development in the UK North Sea would end on February 27. About 280 contractors who were recruited for the work on temporary terms have been notified about the end date, which was determined by the planned departure of the Safe Scandinavia accommodation vessel. Safe Scandinavia is leaving for another project later than expected, with Aker having previously anticipated it would be available only until sometime this month.

Aker Solutions wins Johan Sverdrup contract

Statoil will sign an engineering contract with Aker Solutions worth NOK 4.5billion for the Johan Sverdrup development. The company said the agreement includes engineering and procurement management for the riser and processing platform topsides for phase one of the field, in addition to hook-up work and gangways for the entire field. Aker Solution has so far been responsible for the front-end engineering of all four platforms which constitute the field centre.
